Do you need an easy way to share files with other computers in your household? Or, do you want to share a single internet connection with two or more computers?
If so, then you need a home network. There are two types of networks: wired and wireless.
Wired Networks
A wired network is exaclty as what the name implies. It consists of two or more computer that are physically connected by a network cable.
Wireless Networks
A wireless network offers the same options as a wired network. However, with a wireless network, you are not physically connected to the network. You are connected by radio waves. This allows you to move your laptops, PDA's with wireless capability, IPOD Touches (with onboard wireless), Playstation Portables (with onboard wireless), etc. around your house without losing the ability to connect to the internet.
When you have a wireless network at home, others close to your house may be able log onto your network. But dont worry; the wireless routers on the market today have security features that can be enabled to prevent unauthorized access to your network. I will be glad to enable these security feature is you so wish.
My qualifications: In my past educational career, I have taken several Computer Engineering, Electronics, and Networking classes in high school and in college.
